Father Receives Full Artificial Heart
in UK First

Papworth Hospital

Aug. 2, 2011 - A 40-year-old man has been told he can leave hospital and go home after being fitted with a totally artificial heart. Matthew Green underwent a six-hour operation at Papworth Hospital near Cambridge, during which surgeons replaced his damaged heart with a device powered from a rucksack which he carries around. Our science correspondent Tom Clarke explains.
