June 30, 2011 - A Houston-area teen is getting a new lease on life after becoming the first patient to receive a Total Artificial Heart at a pediatric hospital.

*The Freedom® portable driver is CE approved for use in Europe and undergoing an FDA-approved Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) clinical study in the U.S. Through the IDE clinical study, stable Total Artificial Heart patients who meet study criteria may have the option to be discharged from the hospital with the Freedom portable driver, to wait for their matching donor heart at home and in their communities. CAUTION – The Freedom driver is an investigational device, limited by United States law to investigational use.
