Michael Garippa
Michael Garippa

CEO and President

Michael Garippa is the former CEO and President of TandemHeart. He was recruited by TandemHeart in 2002 as a turnaround expert and stayed on as CEO and President. He took TandemHeart from an R&D firm that had lost an aggregate of $50 million and had no commercial sales to a successful company with over $6 million in net income in the 24 months prior to joining SynCardia.

Prior to joining TandemHeart, Mr. Garippa served as CEO and President of Gateway Home Care. In addition, Mr. Garippa was Founder and CEO of Millennium HomeCare and The Prompt Care Companies. His background also includes being National Sales Manager at Omni Medical and Senior Analyst with the NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation. Mr. Garippa holds a B.A. degree from Rutgers University and a master's degree from New York University.

Douglas Nutter Biography
Douglas Nutter

Chief Development Officer

Douglas Nutter joined SynCardia in March 2012. He has 20+ years of experience in materials, operations and management with GE Plastics. As President of Exatec, LLC, he led the formation, negotiation and start-up of a joint venture between GE and Bayer for lightweight, life-saving polycarbonate automotive windows. Mr. Nutter also has 10 years of experience in optics-based medical devices as Vice President of Business Development at Optical Research Associates, and General Manager of Electro-Optics at Zygo Corporation. He received an S.B. in Physics from MIT and began his career as a materials physicist for Hercules.

Dan Hudspeth Biography
Dan Hudspeth

Chief Financial Officer

Dan Hudspeth brings to SynCardia Systems, Inc. significant United States and international expertise in driving shareholder value with over 20 years of experience in business, finance and market development for private and public companies. Throughout his career, Dan gained significant experience in financing, accounting, manufacturing and distribution, focusing on high-growth private equity-backed and public companies. He has led three public offerings and over 30 private equity and debt financings totaling more than $600 million of capital formation. He was instrumental in five M&A transactions and exits representing over $400 million in shareholder value.

Dan began his career at Deloitte Haskins & Sells. He served as the chief financial officer at Genomica Corp., Rally Development Corp. and Allos Therapeutics. Prior to joining SynCardia, he provided interim executive and board advisory services to several venture capital and private equity-backed companies as a sole proprietor, Cohesive Strategy, LLC. Dan received a B.S. degree in administration with an emphasis in accounting from Colorado State University. He is a certified public accountant – inactive.

Tim Shannon Biography
Tim Shannon

Executive Vice President, Global Commercialization

On January 5, 2015, Tim Shannon joined SynCardia Systems, Inc. as Executive Vice President, Global Commercialization. Mr. Shannon brings more than 25 years of global sales, marketing and operational expertise within the medical device space. He most recently was senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing for Response Biomedical Corp., which develops and manufactures rapid on-site diagnostic tests primarily for the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction and congestive heart failure. He has held senior-level roles with Boston Scientific Corp., General Electric Healthcare, U.S. Surgical Corp. and Teleflex, Inc., where he managed its $225-million Vascular Products portfolio. Additionally, Shannon sits on the Board of Directors for SystemsMerge, Inc., an Orlando-based and privately held medical informatics company. Mr. Shannon holds a bachelor of science/business administration in marketing from the University of Central Florida.

Vice President

Luis Burgos joined us as our Vice President in April 2014. Mr. Burgos has over 20 years of experience in turnaround and general management, operations, strategic planning, quality and FDA regulatory compliance in the medical device industry with start-ups and Fortune 500 companies such as Kimberly Clark, Westmed Inc. and Helix Medical. Mr. Burgos holds a B.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from I.T.E.S.M. Monterrey Institute of Technology & Higher Education and a MBA in International Business from U.I.A. Latin American University.
