Video Length - 1:10

Tony Williams

  • Age: 41 (at implant)
  • Diagnosis: Dilated cardiomyopathy
  • Implant Date: July 5, 2011
  • Freedom® discharge: Aug. 10, 2011
  • Hospital: VCU Medical Center
  • Surgeon: Dr. Daniel Tang

Tony Williams needs a new heart and some luck. He might have found the latter Wednesday when he discovered a rare nine-leaf clover in his front yard. The find provided a welcome light moment for Williams, an Army veteran and former call-center worker who wears a backpack pump to power his SynCardia temporary Total Artificial Heart. Heart disease runs in his family. He is hoping for a transplant.
