With a goal of promoting cardiovascular health,
the cycling team, Team SynCardia, is captained by SynCardia Systems Inc. founder
Dr. Marvin J. Slepian. The team consists of friends and supporters of the mission
of SynCardia and represents a wide cross-section of riders. In 2006, twenty-five
cyclists ranging in ages from 14 to 64 rode under the SynCardia banner for
El Tour de Tucson. Included in the team is Bill Wohl, a recipient of a CardioWest™
temporary Total Artificial Heart (TAH-t), who later received a heart transplant and has been an avid cyclist
for years. Each cyclist has ridden from four to seven thousand miles over the
past year in preparation for El Tour. Members participate in various other cycling competitions and activities throughout the year.
